Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Mortal Shell II.

What is Mortal Shell II?+

Mortal Shell II is a standalone dark-fantasy action RPG and Souls-like sequel from Cold Symmetry, published by Playstack. You play as the Harbinger, possess the Shells of fallen warriors, explore an interconnected world and fight through more than 60 dungeons. It released on Aug 20, 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Is Mortal Shell II open world?+

It is a compact, densely packed open world rather than a huge map. Areas branch out from Marrow Keep, and the world is built around beacons, fog gates and more than 60 handcrafted dungeons layered into the overworld.

Do I need to play Mortal Shell 1 before Mortal Shell II?+

Not required — Mortal Shell II is a standalone sequel with its own story as the Harbinger. Playing the first game adds context, but nothing in our sources indicates the plot of Mortal Shell II depends on it.

Does Mortal Shell II have a stamina bar?+

No. Mortal Shell II removes the traditional stamina system. Instead it uses a posture meter for both the player and enemies: repeated blocking and taking hits raise posture until you stagger, while parries and dodges do not build posture.

How do I unlock fast travel in Mortal Shell II?+

Cleansing beacons rewards Ovum, and collecting enough of them grants Mether's Breath — the game's fast travel item. One player walkthrough reports receiving it after turning in four Ovum. Fast travel is not available at the very start.

Are there Mortal Shell II codes?+

None yet. No verifiable redeem code system or active codes have been confirmed by Cold Symmetry or Playstack. The Codes page is updated as soon as an official source publishes one.

Is Mortal Shell II multiplayer or co-op?+

No. Steam lists Mortal Shell II as single-player only. There is no confirmed co-op or PvP mode.

What does the Slayer Seal do?+

The Slayer Seal is the closest thing to an easy mode: it grants the Gloom Slayer perk, a Slayer Punch that dashes and inflicts break damage, and restores health and resolve on a glorious riposte. Equipping it disables achievements on that save.

How long is Mortal Shell II?+

Community reports are the only data we have: one player finished the game in about 45 hours, and another completion-feedback thread describes roughly 40 hours of play. There is no official or HowLongToBeat time yet — treat this as Unconfirmed.

Is Mortal Shell II on PS5?+

Yes. Mortal Shell II launched on Aug 20, 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Balance Patch 1 notes also confirm PC and console rollout.

Why is my Mortal Shell II map still fogged?+

Map fog is never removed by walking around. You must find the crows — known as Rook in some walkthroughs — marked on the map. Interacting with one grants a map fragment and clears the fog for that area.

Is Mortal Shell II crashing for everyone?+

Crashes are reported in the community megathread but are not universal. Commonly reported workarounds include clearing the NVIDIA shader cache, verifying game files, updating GPU drivers and removing third-party overlays. See the Crashing page for the full checklist.
